G'day all,

Over the past 6 weeks I have started writing sports articles. First, I sent them just to some of my mates on Facebook. Then, over the past fortnight, my dear wife Merrillie has set up a Blog for me to publish articles.

The blog is here: tbrsm.wordpress.com/

PLEASE NOTE: This is entirely amateur, there are NO sponsors, and I do NOT make or seek ANY money for this. It is just a hobby, and I must admit to enjoying this very much.

If you are interested in Sport, please have a look. Subjects covered so far include Cricket, Football, Rugby Union, Rugby League, AFL, Cycling, Comm Games and the NBA.

Best regards,

Auburn

Ann, I see you are a Rangers fan. Oh dear. The inside info from Sydney FC is that they only signed Rangers when the green half of Glasgow was unavailable!!!

Craig, no-one has derived more pleasure than me watching Melbourne since the Storm was created from the ashes of the Western Reds, Adelaide Rams and Hunter Mariners. They have been consistently outstanding, and have produced an inordinate amount of Kangaroo & Kiwi internationals.

To find out that they cheated the Salary Cap is gutting, but then to see that they went more than $3 million over is quite simply outrageous. The NRL created a precedent with Canterbury-Bankstown in 2002, when the 'Dogs were lay-down OPEN MISERES to win the comp (Google Bulldogs Oasis Scandal), so it was no surprise to see the Storm cop such a massive penalty.

Do I agree with the decision? Yes, the NRL had no option.

As for the Brisbane Broncos in the 1990's, you have to remember that Housing in Brisbane in the 1990's was VERY cheap compared to Sydney, so the Broncos could offer $200,000pa to a player being offered $300,000pa by a Sydney Club within 25kms of the GPO and the player would be in front financially by moving to BrisVegas (when given a choice of living in Redcliffe or Sandgate compared with Glenmore Park or Airds, I rest my case). Also, the lure of being coached by Wayne Bennett would have won many players over. Then, playing with such a magnificent roster would only benefit a player's rep chances, especially for Queenslanders.

That being said, if you look at the Broncos early 1990's premiership teams, honestly, you could have chosen an Australian XIII from Brisbane that would have beaten Great Britain and beaten New Zealand away from Carlaw Park, that's how good they were. At times, they were simply awesome, 92-93 in particular.

Yes, Craig, one wonders exactly how they did it, but they have NEVER been sprung for Salary Cap cheating to any significant degree.
